Mikro-Pulssi Oy designs customized fire extinguishing systems for the protection of different areas in a building. Usually, our customers want us to protect equipment and spaces that are very important to the customer’s operation, or that constitute a fire risk. Examples include server rooms, data centres, archives, electrical rooms, industrial machinery and production processes.
Be it a new or an old building, system modernization, a total flooding system (protection of a room enclosed by walls) or a local application system (protection of a single machine or a production line), Mikro-Pulssi Oy designs the most suitable system solution for the particular need. Typically, we use gaseous fire extinguishing agents, but in potentially explosive atmospheres and in other special applications we use water mist instead.
Extinguishing a fire quickly and effectively
An automatic gas extinguishing system quickly detects a fire, activates the alarm and suppresses the fire. The operation of the system is controlled by an extinguishant control panel. If a fire starts in the protected space, fire detectors will sense the fire and send a signal to the control panel. The control panel then activates the alarm. The control panel, beacons and sounders will give a warning of the fire and of the imminent gas release. If there is a fire alarm control panel in the building, the extinguishant control panel will also send an alarm to the fire alarm control panel which transfers the fire alarm to the emergency response centre.
After a predetermined time delay, the extinguishing agent will be discharged into the protected space. When the system discharges, the valve on the extinguishing cylinder will open electrically, releasing the extinguishing agent. The extinguishing agent flows through the fixed discharge piping and out of the nozzles into the protected space, extinguishing the fire. The system can also be discharged manually.
Our systems are safe for humans and for electrical equipment
Because the protected premises may be occupied, human safety is the primary concern for the system design. Our systems, and the extinguishing agents we use in the systems, are safe for humans when the customer follows the given instructions. Mikro-Pulssi always gives training to the persons who have been chosen by the customer as responsible operators of the system.
Extinguishing gases are safe for electrical equipment, too, because they do not cause corrosion. By using gas as the extinguishing agent it is possible to avoid intensive cleaning after a fire. The company can operate practically uninterrupted, thereby avoiding economic losses caused by production downtime.
The extinguishing agent for the system will be chosen on the basis of customer requirements and the characteristics of the space to be protected. How much extinguishing agent is required depends on the chosen agent as well as on the volume and intended use of the protected space.
Below you will find more information on the extinguishing agents we use in our systems.
